Ideas

While researching songs that were alike to mine, I stumbled across this video and i really like the ideas of this video. I like the fact that when Justin Bieber is performing, its in black and white and when we see his storyline it is in colour. This is a kind of editing that i would like to use in my video.

My partner found this video and I really like the editing used in it because we can see both characters and what they are doing on the same screen and it is similar. That's what we want in our video because in our video both characters are going to be doing similar things e.g looking at thier phone to see if they have any messages, etc.

Shooting at Lincoln Cathedral

This is Lincoln cathedral, we decided to film here for the performance because it is a very beautiful building especially at night when it lit up, we thought that this spot would be a very romantic spot for the actor to be alone and for him to think about all the good times that him and the girl spent together.

Storyboard, shooting schedule & Planning

we have decided to make a storyboard to show examples of different shots that we would like to have in our video. The storyboard is there for us to plan our different ideas and to help us while we are filming to show what different shots to use.
This is our shooting schedual that we have created to ensure that our filming goes according to plan, this has helped us organize our days for the next week to make sure that we get filming everyday.

we planned for Ash to look at his phone and realise that Fade has not tried to get in touch with him, we made this memo on Ashley's phone and we printed screen so that we can use it on the phone.

Target Audience Demographic & Psychographic breakdown

Our video is aimed for people who are aged 15-20, we think that Females would be more interested in the video as it is a video aimed at females as they are more interested in songs about romance, love, heartbreak etc..
we would like to attract this video to a large audience so we would go for C1/C2 C1 are the lower middle class and C2 are the skilled working class. these are the people who can afford TV's and who will generally have he time to watch music videos.
Our religious group that we aimed at wasn't specific but if we had to aim for a religious group it would be agnostic people- these are people who are unsure about their religion, we picked this group because we wanted to pick a group that were in the middle.
In their spare time, our audience would most likely be reading a magazine, shopping with friends, find out celebrity gossip, listening to music or hanging out with friends.
If the people that we aimed the music video were aged 15-20 then they would be in full time education and if not then low skill employment or unemployment. The sexuality of our target audience would be heterosexual as the relationship in our video was between a boy and girl. Also we aimed it at White people as the boy in the video is white, even though it is a Chris Brown song and Chris Brown is black.

Props, locations & actors/actress.

This is our actress, Fade Owoaje. She would be the girl that we will use in our music video. In our video, Ashley and Fade are in love with each other but it is Ashley's responsibility to make the first move but he thinks that she just sees him as a friend but he is wrong. They have various opportunities to kiss but Ashley keeps missing the chance, finally they kiss.

Picture of props- make up that the girl uses to pamper herself before they meet & her blackberry. These props that I have used connotes beauty and shows what girls would go through to look attractive to the opposite sex. In a scene we see Fade beautifying herself in front of the mirror and feeling pretty as girls normally do

Actress & Props.

This is the River Humber in hull and it is a location that we are interested in shooting as it is a nice view and it will be good for an establishing shot. maybe for a cutaway. This will be a nice location for Ashley and Fade to have a nice romantic walk or somewhere for them to almost kiss.

This is the shower that Ashley will see Fade in during his fantasy about her.

Actress in her costume before the scene with the shower. We filmed Fade in the nicest shower in the boarding house, she was very comfortable with being half naked in our video and we were happy with this because most people were not happy and comfortable with being half naked in front of camera.
This shower scene is where Ashley has a fantasy about her.

This is my actor, Ashley Kates and he will be the main performer/actor. he is the singer and the storyline revolves around him. In our video, he will be the one that will be in love with Fade (our actress) and he gets various opportunities where he has the chance to declare his love for Fade and tell her how he feels and end it with a kiss, but he doubts in himself and he feels that Fade does not feel the same way but what he doesnt know is that Fade is in love with him too, towards the end of the song he kisses her and he realises that kissing her was the right thing to do.

This is Lincoln Cathedral and this is where Ashley and Fade will have their final kiss, we have chosen this spot because it looks very nice and beautiful when it is  lit up at night time, this will be a nice view and a nice location for the video to end.

This is the bench in front of the boarding house, here Ashley and Fade can sit down and talk and flirt. This can be where Ashley has the opportunity to kiss Fade but he ruins it by chickening out and this is an example of a situation where he has the opportunity to kiss the girl but he misses it.

This bench is in Market Rasen station. Here Ashley and Fade will be sitting down, playing around and flirting. it will be shown in our video as an amateur shot maybe filmed by a friend.

My Reading Of 'I Should Have Kissed You" Video

In this video, the theme is love, regret, missing someone, romance, etc.
We have chosen this video because it has a good narrative and storyline and we have a lot of ideas to go with it.

In our video there is going to be two main characters as the song is a love song mainly about two people, there will be extras in the video like people walking around and people in the background in scenes but the main focus will be on Ashley and Fade's love story.

Chris Brown.

Christopher Maurice "Chris" Brown (born May 5, 1989) is an American R&B singer, songwriter, dancer, and actor. He made his recording debut in late 2005 with the self-titled album Chris Brown at the age of 16.

Stereotypical conventions of the genre

when people think about hip-hop videos, this is the first thing that comes to their mind, it is stereotypical and most of the hip hop videos match the stereotypical conventions of the genre.

none of these conventions were in my video simply because my song was too slow and it wouldn't really go with the song.

Conventions Of Hip-Hop

Now I have chosen a song, I have decided to study Rn B conventions by analysing 3 videos from the genre.

Bartender by Akon is a hip-hop song, and this video has a lot of conventions of hip hop and most of the shots & props used are the ones that would be used in  a typical hip-hop music video.
It starts off with an establishing shot to show a nice, big house and an expensive car driving to it, this signifies wealth. Seconds later, we see a shot of the performer/singer dancing which can be an example of a cut away.
There are close ups of the rims of the car and the rim is the most expensive part of the car so again it connotes wealth. In the video there are lots of shots of stereotypically attractive girls (thin, tanned/exotic) and they are all over the boys, this may show wealth and attraction. The female are represented as sex symbols and the men have power over the women, i do not like this and i would not like this in my video. Majority of the video is filled with girls dancing around and being flirty in skimpy clothing, there are a few boys showed but not as much as the girls.
There are full shots of the singer/performer singing and dancing and also the main attention is on him performing. The boys are all wearing 'bling' which is expensive jewellery and it shows that they are wealthy enough to afford it. There are full close ups of girls when they are all over they boy, they boys are alot fewer than the girls, the only boys in the club are the performers.
There are close ups of girls's faces in the club, it is the same scene but with different shots.

This is another hip-hop song, in this video there is lots of dancing all through, i am not going to have any dancing in my video. The performer is the centre of attention in this song and he has a lot of girls dancing around him in the music video. He is wearing nice clothes throughout the video and he also has a lot of nice looking expensive accessories with him, he has a very trendy phone that we see at the beginning and he also has a lot of nice accessories like his watch and jewellery again this is known as 'bling' which is very flashy. The party is taken place in a nice house this again connotes wealth, also they are popping bottles of expensive champagne. There is a use of slow motion in the video when the girls are dancing to make them look more attractive which keeps the audience more interested. The video shows partying all night and dancing which shows enjoyment. What i don't like about the video is that it was a bit repetitive and it got tiring after a while because the same thing was happening over and over again. The video is simple as he is the performer, he also is in involved in lots of outfit changes which brings attention on the  performer. In the video, everyone looks attractive and it is mainly girls that are in it.

This is another music video that i'm interested in as it is in the genre that my chosen song is in. In this song, it opens with the performer lying down on the floor and it gives off the effect that he has passed out on the ground after getting drunk the night before, this gives a story and a narrative to the video, it is all about partying and having a good time and that is exactly what we see in the video. The performer as a lot of tatoos on his body and it is a convention of hip hop. There are lots of close ups of the performer in the video this is so that the main attention can be on him. The fact that he is in a limousine connotes wealth as he is also with a lot of girls and girls like wealthy boys. The girls are all over the performer and all the girls are all attractive, this is  stereotypical as the girls in the music videos are portrayed as being slim, tanned & good looking. There are different shots used in the party and we know it is a party because of the full house, loud music and the red cups which portray alcohol because the red cups are usually the cups that alcohol is drank out of at house parties. There are close ups of his shoes which are a popular expensive designer which also shows wealth as he is able to afford nice things. The low key lighting (its dark) adds effect to the video and the feel of the song because clubs and parties usually have dark lightning. The use of fades in the video shows time passing on and he keeps partying/having a good time we like this effect and  we want to use fades in our video to show the passing of time over the period where he liked the girl. there is faster editing as the chorus kicks in and the speed of the song picks up and so the video and music become one.
