Editing Our Video; Using Premier Pro

I took stills from my my editing process, we used premier pro and it was very easy and understandable.
We first had to seperate the recordings that we liked from the recordings that we thought were not good enough to include in our video.

Interviewing my target audience

1I interviewed someone from my target audience and I asked them what they would like to see in an r'n'b video.
This is Semilore Delano, she is 16 years old. her favourite artists are Chris Brown, Jordin Sparks, Kanye West, R kelly, Jennifer Hudson, One Direction, Beyonce, JLS and Kelly Rowland.
This is what she told me she would like in an r'n'b music video

I was extremely happy with her response because out of her 8 things she would like to see in an r'n'b music video, I had 7 things. I had all of them except the dancing and cheorography. When Semilore saw my music video, she was pleased with it. She only had possitive things to say about it, as she is a huge Chris Brown fan, she was very happy about the song choice. Semilore even went ahead to rate my music video a 5 stars!
She liked the idea of the couple being an interracial couple and the girl being black she thought was unusual and she thought it was unpredictable
She liked the location that was used, she thought that the field was nice as the weather was good, she also thought that it gave a romantic feel to it, as she thought it was a park at first and parks can be a connotation of romance as couples take long walks at the park and even have romantic picnicks.
Semilore also thought that both the actor/performer and the actress were both good looking and she alsoadmitted that most of the music videos she watches includes artists that she thinks are good lookin, she thinks it is a good idea to use a good looking actor and performer in a music video as it makes the audience more interested in the video, she sees the good looking males as 'eye candy' and she sees the good looking females as fashion icons and trend setters.
Semilore also said that the variety of shots was a bonus as from scene to scene, we were moving from location to location and from a type of shot to another. she liked this because she said that it did not get boring.
She said that narrative and storyline is another huge thing that she looks for in a music video. She said that this makes the video unordinary and different. She thinks that thinks that this is what mainly grabs her attention and keeps her focussed. She liked our music video as she said that she also likes the facts that the lyrics and the story of the song are well associated witth the music video, she prefers this kind of music videos to the ones that are random and have no link or association to the music video.

I picked this target audience because I know that people from aged 13 - 25 (youths) are the age group that are most intouch with the media and the chart hits.
I knew that this age group would have the most to say about my music video because they are the ones that watch  the most music videos so they would have the most to say and they would have the most expectations. Because of all these reasons, i thought that it would be a good idea to have these people judge my video and tell me what they think about it, both bad and good.

Props.

We use a range of props in our video to make the video look more realistic and so it looks natural.
When we filmed in Sian's room, we pretended it was Fades room and we had all her make up, straighteners and accessories on her table to look like a typical girls room
we did this to emphasise that she was a girl and was very feminine, taking care of herself. perhaps trying to impress somebody and look more attractive. The music video and song is about thier friendship and how a relationship could have blossomed but did not and both of them are regretting it as they both liked each other. We emphasied the use of her make up on her table becaause it is known that when a girl likes a boy, she may take care of herself more and put on make up to emphasis her attractiveness to get the boys attention positively.
make up, hair straighteners, lamp, fades hands.

actress and the props

Ashley's mobile phone was one of our props

We used the phone to show when Ashley was getting no messages, facebook notifications, emails etc to show his isolation and was feeling lonely, so we zoomed on this to show emphasis. This then suggests that we are really showing that his loneliness is a huge aspect of the video and it is something that is being focussed on.

More filming

Ash and I have been filming over the past 2 weeks and we have made a lot of progress with our video because we have edited most of our scenes into the video.
We have recorded lots of performance shots, we did this in Ashley's room, and we also recorded Fade in the shower and this was part of the storyline as Ashley was day dreaming about Fade when he was on the bed. originally it was meant to be a daydream, but it looks more like a cutaway or a parallel storyline, so i would like to leave it like that.
There are also lots of shots of the actress

We filmed Ashley on the roof, this was a performance shot of him singing.

Making of a new storyboard

This is me drawing a new storyboard that we decided to film.

This is the completed storyboard and it shows the different types of shots. e.g close ups, midshots, wideshots etc.
When I researched lots of other music videos in my genre, I saw some shots and scenes that I really liked and I decided to include in my music video. I story boarded a split screen because from J-Cole’s in the morning video, I could see that it was a great type of shot as you could see what both the young woman and young male were doing, and suggested that they were in similar moods as they were both doing the same thing and this is what we have done in our music video.
Another shot that we thought would be great to use was the close up of the boy in narrative and performance. This was so that we could really get a feel of his mood and understand the message in the song. We also drew a shot reverse shot in the scene when he was expecting a message from the girl and he got none, to show how rejected he felt we decided a shot reverse shot of the phone showing 0 messages and his face to show how he reacted to the lack of messages
we thought another great shot to use was the wide shot of the couple on the field showing thioer full body and thier body language before the failed kiss. we thought that a narrative scene on the field would be a great idea and to later then have a performance shot on the field will be good as well.
we also thought a mid shot of the performer will be good to use during the performance shot from above his head to his top half, we thought that this shot was nice as we made sure it was varied with close ups and full wide shots.
Another scene was the girl looking in the mirror and applying her make up and getting the reflection in the mirror in the scene, we thought that this was a nice way to show off our camera skills and we thought that it looked good and professional.
We storyboarded the shot establishing shot of the field while the performer was performing, we thought this was good as we got to get familiar with the location. as my performer was alone on the huge field, this suggested isolation and lonliness. so we decided to put emphasis on the huge field by having a establishing shot/wide shot.

Shot List; Bedroom

We decided to film in the bedroom a lot of performance shots and not any narrative shots.
This was done in the boys room (Ash) where he had time to think and be alone, while he was in his room we got a split screen of Fade in her room aswell alone so it suggests they were both isolated.

Shot List; Field

we decided to get performance shot on the field, both performance and narrative as the field looked very nice as it was beautiful weather.

Shot List; Cathedral

We made a list of the shots that we wanted to film when we went to the cathedral.
we wanted to do all performance shots in the cathedral.
initally we wanted to do a narrative aswell but we did not like the shots that we got so we decided to make it 100% performance.

Shot List

Ash and I made a list if all the remaining shots we needed for our video, place and time.
